Skinny Ties Return To Fashion With The Mad Men Show
Mad Men is not just a phenomona on AMC, the fabulous classic thin neckties seen on the show are becoming a popular trend in modern fashion. The Mad Men cult hit show takes place in the beginning of the 60’s when skinny neckties were at their hight. Now red carpets everywhere are featuring the biggest male actors sporting the look and even fashion designers are examining the show for inspiration on classic neckties. If anybody wants to try this vintage look then try searching for authentic classic 1950’s or 1960’s skinny ties.
When to Wear Skinny Neckties:
Wearing Skinny or vintage ties allow the individual to dress up or down depending on the situation. Also, if you want to show off a aura of modern style you can’t go wrong with skinny neckties.
For business professionals, a patterned, tailored suit or patterned shirt can be teamed up with a mono colored classic men’s ties. Keep the look positive by picking a tie that is a little thinner than usual, creating the aura of confidence and power. Make sure the pattern is also not too bright which can cause the look to be too much for the office.
At a black tie event a skinny necktie, combined with a formal black suit and white button down shirt is a timeless look. For a casual look, a thin necktie can also be paired with a cotton shirt and a vest. To create a playful and easy going look, roll up the sleeves on a long sleeved shirt or go with short sleeves and add a striped or bold colored patterned narrow necktie.
Though narrow ties look special, their narrowness means they are just not a great look for larger men. Buff, muscular men will appear more stylish with a normal width tie. Also, the skinny tie look is more in tune with younger men. To still get the look of the Mad Man TV show, older men and more buff men can chose a tie that is thin, but somewhat wider than the 2 inch ties typically worn as narrow ties.
Pure silk neckties in soft light blues, muted grays, browns and greens pull off the classic look that reined during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Of course, narrow neckties in plaid, adorned with graphics, bold reds, purples and oranges can also work great. When going with a bold tie remember that the more vivid the tie is, the more subdued the rest of the outfit should be, to keep from looking too loud.
